“Sapsan” Bullet Train from Moscow – St Petersburg Russia

Lindsay and I love to travel by train and it is our preferred method of transportation to get from A to B. We were both ecstatic to learn that there was a brand new bullet train that connects the two great Russian cities of Moscow and St Petersburg. What used to take an entire night is now done in about 3 hours via the sleek new “Sapsan” train that travels at speeds of up to 160 MPH. We both couldn’t wait to take this train and were booked on the 6:00 AM train out of Lenningradsky station which is one of the most beautiful old train stations in all the world. We took the Moscow Metro from our hotel and within minutes were entering the beautiful old station. The main waiting area has a fantastic statue of just Lenin’s head high up on a pedestal. This sits in front of a wall with Russian writing which gives the entire station a true “Russian” feel. We waited until our train number was called and then made our way out to the platforms. As we got on the train and found our seats we had some of the worst luck we have ever had when traveling. Our two seats were the ONLY two seats in the entire car that did not have windows. We were SOOO bummed out as we were both looking forward to seeing the Russian scenery out the window. Luckily we could actually see quite well by just reclining our seats all the way back and turning our heads (it did get a bit uncomfortable). However, after the journey started we just put on our Ipods, reclined all the way back, and watched the Russian countryside pass us by. The 3 hours went extremely fast and before we knew it we were arriving at the beautiful old Moskovsky Rail Terminal in St Petersburg. The trip was painless and efficient and allowed us to wake up in Moscow but have lunch in St Petersburg. On the way back to Moscow we took a night train (to save time and money) and we were really missing the beautiful new Sapsan bullet train that connects the two great cities of Russia.
