Brooklyn Heights, New York City – An All American Neighborhood

Lindsay and I have always dreamed about living in New York City and during our 2005 trip to the Big Apple we found exactly what neighborhood we want to move to…Brooklyn Heights. We actually stumbled into this neighborhood by accident after walking across the Brooklyn Bridge. It was a beautiful Saturday morning and after we crossed the bridge into Brooklyn we decided to keep exploring instead of immediately turning back around to Manhattan. Within minutes we found ourselves wandering through some of the most charming neighborhoods we have ever seen. The streets were narrow and were lined with tall leafy trees. The houses/apt buildings were old brownstones that each had a set of steps leading up to the front door (classic New York City). On this particular October Saturday morning they were having a “neighborhood barbecue” and they had closed of the streets so that people could picnic, talk, barbecue, etc. there were numerous groups selling hot dogs and the whole scene was as “American” as you can get. We were so much in love with the neighborhood that we even asked a mail women passing by to take our picture so that we could always remember it. The views over into Manhattan were spectacular and the entire area was a true urban paradise. We eventually made our way back across the bridge and it was so fun to pass all of the local Jewish people who had walked across the bridge to go to worship (on Saturday). To this day Brooklyn Heights probably tops both of our lists for the number one place we would want to live.
