Road to the Sun – Glacier National Park, MT

One of the greatest road trip adventures Lindsay and I have every had is taking the famous “road to the sun” in Glacier National park. This incredible road winds up the steep mountains of the park and has some of the greatest views we have ever seen. The green mountain peaks are surrounded by blue sky, white snow, etc, etc…it is truly breathtaking. The road is extremely steep at first with numerous hair pin turns. It eventually levels off at a very high vantage point were you can see a 360 degree view of the surrounding peaks before eventually making your way down the mountains and towards Canada. We started this great adventure after waking up in the back of our jeep (me, Lindsay and Sundance) at a rest stop outside of Missoula, MT. We hit the road and before we knew it we were enjoying breakfast at the West Glacier Village Café. After an incredibly breakfast we entered the park and were immediately blown away by the scenery. There were numerous wildfires in the area and we thought for sure our views would be hindered but the light smoke only added to the mystique of the surrounding peaks. We found one particular lake near the side of the road and pulled over for a photo op. We ended up skipping stones, letting Sundance swim and getting one of the best family photos ever(see below). We then continued up the road until eventually making our way on to the “road to the sun” (there is no mistaking you are there as the road suddenly gets very steep). We pulled over numerous times on our way up the road to take pics of the beautiful valley and peaks around us. After stopping briefly at the summit we continued on towards Canada (we actually didn’t have a destination but ended up in Calgary that night). On the back side of road to the sun we looked in our rear view mirror and saw one of the most spectacular scenes we have ever scene. Large mountain peaks surrounding a beautiful mountain lake. It was the perfect ending to our fantastic adventure on Glacier National Parks “road to the sun.”
