Wat Phra Singh – Chiang Mai Thailand

The beautiful city of Chiang Mai Thailand is home to one of the most amazing Buddhist temples we have ever seen: Wat Phra Singh. When we first arrived in the city we started exploring and decided to simply follow the large red brick wall that surrounds the old city before finally going inside via a beautiful old gate. Once inside the old city we simply wandered around until we stumbled on the beautiful Wat Phra Singh. This ancient Buddhist temple sits right in the heart of the old city and has classic Thai architecture. There are numerous temples spread out along the compound and the main temple housed a very large golden Buddha statue. We admired this statue for quite a while and to this day it is coolest statue of Buddha I think I have ever seen. We then wandered out of the main temple expecting to leave but stumbled into one of the coolest places we have ever seen. Surrounding the temples were numerous trees that had Buddhist proverbs in both Thai and English posted on each tree. We wandered this area for quite a while just reading each word of wisdom and marveling and the uniqueness of the temple grounds. While wondering through the forest I found one particular quite that really struck me. It read: “living without hope is like burying oneself.” To this day I am still inspired by these words and have never forgotten them. While we were enjoying the forest and quotes we noticed a small Thai boy (probably around 8) that was actually a monk. This cute little boy was wandering through the temple compound in his orange rob and sandals. It took almost all the strength I have to keep Lindsay from kidnapping this cute little kid to take him home. :) We eventually left the “forest of wisdom” and temple grounds to continue our exploration of the city but we will never forget the experience we had at the beautiful Wat Phra Singh temple in Chiang Mai Thailand.
